Seasonal Staff Opportunities

The City of Watertown’s Recreation Department has multiple seasonal opportunities available. These opportunities are perfect for motivated individuals interested in making a positive impact in the Watertown community. These opportunities are ideal for college students, aspiring teachers or coaches, and active individuals interested in sharing their passion for athletics, STEM education, arts and crafts, and many other activities with people of all ages. Interested candidates must be available to work approximately 8-15 hours per week depending on their position, including after school and weekends. The Recreation Department hires for a variety of positions for five different programming sessions. Please see positions and sessions listed below. Fall: September 2 – October 31
Winter I: November 11 – January 19
Winter II: February 3 – April 4
Spring: April 14 – June 15
Summer: June 22 – August 21

  • Program Specialists:Lead daily programming, prepare written curriculum, and participate in activities while teaching new skills to participants ages 3 to 18+. Program specialists must have prior experience in coaching, crafting, or working with children. Past programming includes, outdoor sports, Pickleball, Arts & Crafts, volleyball, and basketball.
    • Anticipated Hours: Recreational programming occurs 3-5 days a week after school, starting at 2 pm, evenings until 8:30 p.m. and/or on Saturday morning. 10-15 hours/week.
  • Program Staff:Program staff assist coordinators and specialists by taking attendance and teaching new skills set forth in the programming. Strong preference for applicants to have experience in a teaching capacity with elementary children or are looking to improve their skill base with participants ages 3 to 18+.
    • Anticipated Hours: Recreational programming occurs 3-5 days a week after school, starting at 2 pm, evenings until 8:30 p.m. and/or on Saturday morning. 10-15 hours/week.
  • Park Rangers:Responsible for opening and closing public parks within Watertown, while monitoring permitted events, field use and other assigned duties.
    • Anticipated Hours: Work 3-5 days a week during afternoons, nights, and/or weekends. 8-15 hours/week.

Salary: All positions have a pay range between $15.00 - $19.00 per hour depending on experience and qualifications. These positions are not benefit eligible.

Minimum Qualifications: At least 18 years of age or older; Valid Driver’s License; Good interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated interest in working with people.
