Public Notice: Call for Volunteers for the Pride Committee


The Watertown Pride Committee is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated residents to join our team! This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the planning and execution of the premiere event that celebrates and supports our LGBTQ+ community.

About the Pride Committee: The Pride Committee is responsible for organizing events, activities, and initiatives that promote inclusivity, diversity, and equality within our community. Our goal is to create a welcoming environment for all residents and visitors, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation. The Pride Committee’s main responsibility will be to assist in planning and organizing the Watertown Pride Parade and Festival in June.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning and organizing Pride events and activities.
  • Collaborate with local organizations and businesses to support Pride initiatives.
  • Promote awareness and education about LGBTQ+ issues.
  • Attend regular committee meetings and participate in discussions.
  • Identify and help secure entertainment for the festival.
  • Prioritize initiatives important to the inclusivity of a successful pride festival.
  • Assist in the development of promotional messaging and materials for the Pride Festival and helping to find and secure sponsors for the event.
  • Gather input from the community about what is wanted and needed for an inclusive and successful Pride Festival.
  • Help respond to inquiries about the Pride Festival. 

Requirements:

  • Must be a resident of Watertown.
  • Passionate about LGBTQ+ rights and community engagement.
  • Able to commit time to attend meetings and participate in events.
  • Previous experience in event planning or community work is a plus, but not required.

Interested residents should submit a brief cover letter explaining their interest in joining the Pride Committee to JoAnna Hand at jhand@watertown-ma.gov or mail it to City Manager’s Office, 149 Main Street, Watertown MA 02472 by Friday, November 15, 2024.
